- Jizo Peace Center for Children
Let
us refrain from injuring anyone through our thoughts, words,
or deeds. Let us see each person we meet as desiring happiness
as we practice compassion toward one another. Let us remember
the wisdom children naturally develop when they receive unconditional
love for their highest aspirations. We visualize peace for ourselves
and for all living beings.
WZM
Award for Compassion
The
WZM Award for Compassion grants $300 to graduating high school
seniors in Southern California who value unselfishness and kindness.
These seniors give service in an empowering way to others in the
community and may have overcome significant obstacles to success
themselves.
Each recipient will be selected by the Jizo Peace Center on the
basis of a 500 word essay written by the student on the experience
of learning and practicing compassion. High school senior scholarship
counselors invite students to participate acknowledging teacher
recommendations. The WZM Award is given out at the annual awards
ceremony at the individual high schools.
The Jizo Peace Center is willing to partner with community organizations
and businesses to match funds towards the award.
The WZM Award for Compassion recognizes the Eastern idea of “crazy
wisdom” – of following inner guidance for kindness
and openness to others despite what family or friends may say.
WZM also stands for Walter – Jizo – Martha, the names
of Jizo Peace Center founder Ruth Handy’s parents linked
on either side honoring Jizo.
